About Me
Who I am
I am a husband, father, retired American National Football League (NFL) player, United States Marine, Iraq War Veteran, humanitarian, inspirational, motivational speaker, and professor from Bakersfield, CA. I dedicate myself full-time to bringing my message of hope, perseverance, and strength to churches, schools, and conferences around the United States and the world. As a keynote speaker, I help break through the boundaries that are limiting to you, your team, or your organization. Let me help you move from the world of yesterday's regrets to the world of tomorrow's victories!
NFL beginnings
I was the 2nd round, 41st pick in the 1998 NFL Draft to the Pittsburgh Steelers. I spent three years with the Steelers before signing on with the Seattle Seahawks, Oakland Raiders, and the St. Louis Rams.
Service in the United States Marine Corps.
I made the life choice to enlist in the United States Marine Corps as an infantry machine gunner (0331) and served my country from 2005 to 2009.

I am a 3rd generation Veteran. My grandfather served in WWII in the Navy, my father served in the Army in Vietnam, and I served in Iraq in the Marine Corps. In 2007, my Marine Corps brothers and I from 1/3 Bravo Company were deployed to Haditha, Iraq.

In 2012, I rode a bicycle 3,468 miles across the United States to raise awareness about veteran suicide and childhood obesity. The ride took me through 16 states and 78 cities across our great nation.

As a student, I have earned an A.A. in Criminal Justice, an A.S. in welding technology, a B.A. in Liberal Studies, an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership, an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership.
Professor
Since 2013, I have been a professor at Bakersfield College. I teach in the discipline of welding. I believe trade skills are a very important part of our society and need to be a priority within our educational system.

Community
As a community member who believes in “serve over self,” I have had the opportunity to serve my community in many different fashions. One example of this service is when I and two other fellow Marines volunteered time to work with some of the youth at the Kern County Crossroads Juvenile Corrections Facility.

Staat for Congress 2020
As a third-generation Veteran, my grandfather fought in WWII in the Navy, my father fought in Vietnam in the Army, and I served in Iraq while serving in the Marine Corps, and I wanted to continue to serve so in 2020 I ran for congress.
